Jul 13, 2009 - I vividly remember this commercial being played on WTCN channel 11 in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul during the early to late 1970s. At that time, 11 was a "Metromedia" station. They're now an NBC affiliate. But it's been years since I've seen this, my brother-in-law and I constantly make references to this - I'm in my forties and he's just a little older so it's kind of fun to actually have proof this commercial exists since nobody else remembers it but us. Great.

Aug 1, 2009 - I wonder how much this record set is selling for on e-bay? And did anyone realise the actor John Williams replaced Sebastian Cabot on Family Affair?
kseward Says:
Aug 15, 2009 - There's also a TV ad with a stuffy fellow (yes, stuffier than John Wms and just--very wooden) standing in the balcony of a concert hall. Wonder if that's an earlier ad for this same basic collection (well-known classical themes)??Also Vista Marketing is in Terre Haute IN--an offshoot of Columbia Record Club?

Sep 8, 2009 - This commercial was on TV ALL the time when I was a kid. I think Bill Murry did a spoof of this on the old SNL. ...Great post!

wmbrown6 Says:
Sep 23, 2009 - To 'kseward' about Vista Marketing: It was actually the second label to issue this compilation. Until the late 1970's or so, Mr. Williams mentioned Columbia House in connection with who was releasing it.
uebergeek Says:
Sep 25, 2009 - Ha ha! Haven't seen this in 25 years, but I could still hum/recite all the music excerpts and dialogue ahead of the playback... what a thing to have permanently engraved in my brain tissue... Thanks for posting!
MrZoomhead Says:
Sep 29, 2009 - I still quote this commerical. Somebody might say, to me "George Harrison and Eric Clapton wrote the song 'Badge'. And I'll say "Yes, but did you know that the original theme is from the Polovetsian Dance #2 by Borodin?"
chrisman737 Says:
Oct 10, 2009 - We had this memorized. Our favorite line, "Aaaahhh, it's a priceless introduction to the classics." We would over-emphasize the "aahh" just for fun. My mom ordered these and it sucked because it had about 40 seconds of each piece -- that's how they got so many of the pieces on those albums.
smartbunny Says:
Oct 19, 2009 - I was thinking of this commercial, came here and found it in 2 seconds. Viva la 70's! Like these familiar themes...
StukInBuf Says:
Oct 24, 2009 - I recall that also. "Galloning Gourmet." "Magic Garden." "I Dream of Jeannie." Anytime these shows went to commercial break on Channel 11, this ad would show up, like clockwork.
StukInBuf Says:
Oct 24, 2009 - If it's on CDs now, you may still be in luck.
swami1 Says:
Oct 25, 2009 - Haaa!
